Warsaw

The Warsaw office of CEC Government Relations, located close to the Polish parliament, was the first to be established in the CEC network in 1993. Its Managing Director is CEC’s Founding Partner Marek Matraszek, working together with Partner & Public Affairs Director Aleksandra Zieleniewska and assisted by a team of Polish nationals.

Marek Matraszek was born in the UK in 1962, and studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he graduated in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 1984. Following a year in Poland teaching at the Catholic University of Lublin, he returned to Oxford to obtain a Master's degree in Russian and East European Studies in 1987. He then continued his studies at Oxford, reading for a doctoral dissertation. He moved to Poland in 1990 as a freelance political consultant, and worked closely with both the British Conservative Party and the US Republican Party in assisting their activities in Central Europe. In 1992 he was appointed to represent the Margaret Thatcher Foundation in the region.

Marek has also written widely on Polish and international affairs for publications such as Poland Monthly, Warsaw Business Journal, The Spectator and Wall Street Journal Europe, and has published a study of the Polish political scene, The Politics of Restoration. He is a regular commentator on Polish politics for Polish Radio, the BBC, CNN and CNBC.

He specialises in designing and implementing strategic communications and lobbying campaigns for major US, UK and European multinationals. Past accounts have included British Airways, SNCF and Airbus. He has a special expertise in the defence and aviation sector, having advised Rockwell International, The Boeing Company, GEC Marconi, Smiths, and Netjets. He currently advises on the strategic public affairs activities of Lockheed Martin in Poland. A UK citizen, he speaks Polish fluently.

Aleksandra Zieleniewska joined CEC Government Relations in 1995 with a particular responsibility for strategic clients in the media, telecommunication, finance and health service sectors, and was made a Partner of the Warsaw office in 2004. Past accounts of Aleksandra include Bayerische Vereinsbank, RMF Radio, UPC, TPSA, and the Association of Foreign Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.

Prior to joining CEC, Aleksandra worked as a journalist, beginning as an anchor at the underground Radio Malopolska and writing for several opposition bulletins and publications in the 1980s. In 1989 she served as head of the Solidarity election studio in the Krakow region and after June 1989 started to work as a freelance journalist for public Polish Radio in Krakow. She was a founder of the first and largest private national radio station in Poland, Radio RMF FM. She has worked as a journalist for Radio RMF FM, the BBC World Service in London, and Radio dla Ciebie, Warsaw where she was Chief Editor of Business News. She was also special correspondent for the Irish-based agency Emerging Markets Data.

Born in Krakow, Aleksandra graduated in Polish Literature at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, and speaks Polish and English.
